I'm surprised there has been no mention of the new Smoosh album here. It was originally titled The World's Not Bad, but they changed the name at the last minute to Withershins. The official release date is the 29th, but those of us who were lucky enough to support their kickstarter project got to download it yesterday. For everyone else, it's available to stream here:

I posted a brief blog about it on my tumblr account here, if anyone's interested in reading my thoughts.

I can't believe how much they've grown!

Smoosh updated their MySpace with the following bulletin:
hey everyone!!

Sorry we haven't been keeping you posted on what's going on with the cd.

So, we finished the recording in October. In two awesome studios; one in Canada and one in Seattle.

Since then we moved to Stockholm, Sweden for a while and have been mixing the cd over the internet!

We are 99% done with it, but it took so long because it ended up being pretty complicated to do over email. Especially since this cd has songs that have parts from three different studios (one studio was a tiny cabin where everything was recorded through our computer mic, or done on the computer.)

So it was pretty hard to describe every little mixing detail over email. But it was an awesome experience, and we are super excited about how everything is turning out.

We haven't really been playing any shows, because we're trying to get this cd done! But we did play two shows recently in Norway, which went great.

But we can't wait to start playing the new stuff live.

Well, I think that's about all that's going on now. We'll let you know when we have a release date, or if we have any more shows.

thanks guys!

-smoosh

And there are new pictures as well!

As I mentioned in the last post, one of Smoosh's performances was recorded live and put online. Chloe sings backup, and Maia plays the bass. :) I think they sound fantastic!

Setlist:
1. Massive Cure
2. Great Skies
3. This Modern Love
4. In the Fall
5. Darkshine
6. Find a Way
7. Promises

I haven't heard some of these tracks before, so I'm pretty psyched! The neat thing is that you can select which song you want to listen to, and the video will skip to that part.

Smoosh plans to release the European version of Free to Stay in the spring, so stay tuned!

In case people aren't already aware, the band plans to embark on an extensive tour that includes both US and European dates. The entire list is on their MySpace page. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate because they appear to be double-booked on some dates. I'm sure someone will clear that up, though!

Smoosh's MySpace team posted two blogs with links to some never before seen pictures.

The first are some behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the "Find a Way" video: Dean MacKay's flickr

Those photographs are by Dean MacKay, and some of them can be found in a book by Laura Schwartz called Making Music Videos: Everything You Need to Know from the Best in the Business

The second are some promo shots from Michelle Moore. I LOVE these! The girls have wild style. ;) They are also all leg. If they're not super tall when they're done growing, I'll be surprised.

This was recently posted on Smoosh's MySpace. It's an improv jam session with Chloe and the guy who plays Pedro in Napolean Dynamite from two years ago:

Chloe seems a little shy until she starts playing!
